Apr 11 @ 9:00 am – Apr 25 @ 4:00 pm
Daniel Thibeault Art Show @ Dublin Community Center | Dublin | New Hampshire | United States

The DubHub features the landscapes and small floral artwork of Daniel Thibeault during the month of April. Open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 (except noon to 1 on Wednesdays). Also open during special events. Admission is free.

Daniel Thibeault is a Peterborough native and is widely recognized throughout the Monadnock Region for his artistic and entrepreneurial skills. He began painting at an early age, and although primarily self taught, attended the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. Being multi-talented, Dan returned to NH after school and worked as a chef in several area establishments, including the Hancock Inn and the Folkway Coffee House. Dan then partnered to create Twelve Pine, a gourmet restaurant and café. After 15 years he sold the business. He now devotes his time primarily to painting and spending time with his grandsons.

Dan’s small florals were exhibited at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts along with the Art in Bloom show in 2003. Dan paints while traveling and has sold art in many countries. He has exhibited extensively locally and his artwork has begun to spider out from the region into surrounding areas. He participates in the Monadnock Open Studio Art Tour and has contributed a piece to the permanent collection of Mt. Monadnock paintings at the newly renovated visitors center at Monadnock State Park in Jaffrey.

Royal Opera House CARMEN @ River Street Theatre

Royal Opera House CARMEN @ River Street Theatre

Carmen is the best-known work by French composer Georges Bizet, and one of the most famous operas in the entire art form – numbers such as the Habanera and the Toreador Song have permeated the popular consciousness as little else has. The opera’s heady combination of passion, sensuality and violence initially proved too much for the stage, and it was a critical failure on its 1875 premiere. Bizet died shortly after, and never learned of the spectacular success his Carmen would achieve: the opera has been performed more than five hundred times at Covent Garden alone. This ever-popular opera is given a fresh point of view in Barrie Kosky’s highly physical production, originally created for Frankfurt Opera. The Australian director is one of the world’s most sought-after opera directors, whose Royal Opera debut with Shostakovich’s The Nose in 2016 was greeted with delight. For Carmen he has devised a far-from-traditional version, incorporating music written by Bizet for the score but not usually heard, and giving a new voice to the opera’s endlessly fascinating central character. Sung in Italian with English surtitles

Shakespeare's Birthday! AS YOU LIKE IT (1936) @ River Street Theatre

William Shakespeare’s AS YOU LIKE IT 1936—Comedy/Romance—1 hr 36 mins—NR This film version of the famed Shakespearean comedy features a young Laurence Olivier as Orlando and Elisabeth Bergner as Rosalind. As the story goes, Rosalind, smitten by Orlando and not able to get his attention, disguises herself as a boy to more easily remain in Orlando’s vicinity. Eventually Orlando grows to like his new friend and Rosalind is stuck playing a boy with a boy with whom she’d rather be a girl. Confusing? Director Paul Czinner does a fine job executing the concept. Shown in honor of Shakespeare’s birthday!
